Genesis chapter 1 modernized
In the beginning, God created our universe.
The earth was a barren abyss shrouded in darkness.
The Spirit of God shielded
over the face of the waters.
God said, "Let there be
light,"
there was light.
God saw that the light was
good.
God separated the light from
the darkness.
God called the light Day, the
darkness he called Night.
There was a resting, there
was a renewing,
the first epoch.
God said, "Let there be
an atmosphere in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from
the waters."
God created the atmosphere
and separated the waters that were under the atmosphere from the waters that
were above the atmosphere.
It was so.
God called the atmosphere
Heaven.
There was a resting, there
was a renewing,
the second epoch.
God said, "Let the
waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry
land appear."
It was so.
God called dry land Earth,
and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas.
God saw that it was good.
God said, "Let the earth
sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which
is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth."
It was so.
The earth brought fourth
vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and bearing fruit in which is their seed, each
according to its own kind.
God saw that it was good.
There was a resting, there
was a renewing,
the third epoch.
God said, "Let there be
lights in the atmosphere of the heavens to separate the day from the night. Let
them be for signs and for seasons; for days and years. Let them be lights in
the atmosphere of the heavens to give light upon the earth."
It was so.
God made visible the two
great lights, the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule
the night, and the stars.
God them visible in the
atmosphere of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and
over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness.
God saw it was good.
There was a resting, there
was a renewing,
the fourth epoch.
God said, "Let the
waters swarm with living creatures, and let flying creatures fly above the
earth across the atmosphere of the heavens."
God created the great sea
creatures, all living creatures that move and swarm in the waters according to
their kinds and every winged flying creature according to its kind.
God saw that it was good.
God blessed them, saying,
"Be fruitful, multiply, fill the waters of the seas, and let the flying
creatures multiply on the earth.
There was a resting, there
was a renewing,
the fifth epoch.
God said, "Let earth
bring forth living creatures according to their kinds, domestic animals,
creeping animals and wild animals of the earth according to their kinds."
It was so.
God made the wild animals of
the earth according to their kinds, the domestic animals according to their
kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind.
God saw that it was good.
God said, "Let us make
man in our image, according to our divine character. Let them have dominion
over the sea creatures, the flying creatures of the heavens, the domestic
animals, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the
earth."
God created man in his own
image, in the divine character of God he created him; male and female he
created them.
God blessed them.
God said to them, "Be
fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and manage it. Have dominion over the sea
creatures, the flying creatures of the heavens and over every living creature
that is moving on the earth."
God said, "Behold, I
have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth,
and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. To every
wild animal of the earth, to every flying creature of the heavens and to
everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I
have given every green plant for food."
It was so.
God saw everything that he
had made, and behold, it was very good.
There was a resting, there
was a renewing,
the sixth epoch.
