THE NATURE OF IMMORTALITY Revised
THE NATURE OF IMMORTALITY
“I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts. For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity. All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.” Ecclesiastes 3:18-20 ESV
That is especially true according to theory of evolution.
However, we were created to be immortal flesh.
Adam and Eve were sentenced to death when they sinned.
In one sense they lost their right to immortality and for all their children that sane day they sinned.
In another sense, they were so near to perfection, it took nearly a thousand years for them to grow old and die.
To the Eternal God a thousand years is as just one day.
So now we live for only a brief instance of time, like insects and we die just like the beasts, there is no difference between us.
GOD’S FIRST COMMANDMENT:
“Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."” Genesis 1:26 ESV
In a sense, we do dominate over the all the creatures of earth. The very reason and the only reason why any and beast would have a natural fear to harm a human being is by us being innately superior to animals. Yes, God made the beasts mortal, they die; and no mortal creature would want to taste immortal blood, not even single cell organisms. Immortal flesh and blood will not impart immortality to mortal creature, rather it would kill it if ingested. The regenerative properties of immortal flesh and blood would continue to grow in an environment suitable to provide it nourishment. It would eventually devour the animal that ingested immortal flesh or blood. This is the basis of their fear of man. But for now God has only maintained that illusion among the animals in general. It is only a matter of time when they can smell our fear of inferiority and mortal blood.
“The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered.” Genesis 9:2 ESV
DRINKING IMMORTAL BLOOD:
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”” John 6:51, 53-58 NIV
There is a possibility that the Messiah could have meant this literally as a true possibility, but of course not practical or lawful as a means to save all mankind.
“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.” John 6:63 NIV
I am wondering, was the Messiah resurrected as a regeneration of his immortal flesh back to life? However,
“Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.” Luke 23:46 NIV
As Adam was created with the first breath of life, so did the Messiah die with his last breath of life. Immortality can only be maintained by the spirit.
“So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:45 NIV
“Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”” Ecclesiastes 3:21 NIV
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”” John 3:8 NIV
The Messiah was changed at his resurrection, not from mortal flesh into immortal spirit, but from immortal flesh into immortal spirit, because like Adam, IMMORTAL FLESH had to die as a RANSOME.
1) Humans can be immortal
2) Immortality as human is not superhuman (see The Worship of Jesus)
3) Humans were innately created to be immortal
4) Animals were innately created to be mortal
5) All animals and creatures have a natural aversion to immortal blood
6) God made all earthly creatures to be subject/slaves to humans, but since humans are now mortal like animals, then humans treat each other as animals.
It seems more likely that the body of the Messiah regenerated back the life in the normal healing process of being immortal. That is why he still had the scars of his impalement on his hands and feet. If he had a resurrected spiritual body instead, then why would he mimic having wounds, for which any angel could have pretended having the same wounds? (Luke 24:39 ) Indeed the Messiah, as he describes, fell asleep in death, and death has no hold on an immortal soul.
Therefore, it was on the fortieth day that the Messiah was changed into a spiritual body and ascended into heaven.
It is because we are mortal like the animals, who are innately mortal, that we are naturally inclined to kill each other.
Being Human means to behave like an immortal, which is what the basis of the to two greatest commandments. Jude 1:9
Being a sinner is not just being human, but failing to be human.
